WEDNESDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF LENT B

Adhering to God’s laws, leads to righteousness and prosperity.  Do well to adhere to it and teach your children same.

Good morning, dear friends and welcome to Wednesday of the third week of Lent Year B.  May the Good Lord bless our going out and our coming in, through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Dear friends, how are you preparing for your future?

“And now, Israel, listen to the statues and norms which I am teaching you to put into practice, so that you will live to entre and take possession of the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you… Observe them and put them into practice, for this will show your wisdom and prudence in the eyes of the people, who, when they come to hear all these statues, will say: ‘Indeed this great nation is a wise and prudent nation.’  For in truth, is there a nation as great as ours, whose gods are as near to it as the Lord, our God, is to us whenever we call him?… But, be careful and be on your guard.  Do not forget these things which your own eyes have seen nor let them depart from your mind as long as you live.  But, on the contrary, teach them to your children and to your children’s children.”

Deuteronomy 4:1, 4-9

Dear friends, in this passage, we see the emphasis on the uniqueness and wisdom of God’s commandments in contrast to the practice of other peoples.  The passage calls for obedience to the commandments as a way to demonstrate wisdom before other peoples.  It underscores the significance of teaching and transmitting these commandments to future generations, ensuring the continuity of faith and the covenant with God.  Moreover, it highlights the crucial role of passing down religious teachings to children, which fosters a deep understanding and commitment to God’s laws within the community.

Dear friends, adhering to God’s laws, leads to righteousness and prosperity.  Do well to adhere to it and teach your children same.

Let us pray.

Gracious God,

Help us heed Your commandments diligently, for in obedience lies our wisdom and strength.  May we teach future generations Your statues, instilling a deep reverence for Your ways.  Guide us to walk faithfully, distinct in righteousness, and bound by the covenant of love.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

The Lord be with you.
