SATURDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF LENT B

Dear friends, are you making good use of the second chance(s) that God, in His mercy, has given to you?
Good morning, dear friends and welcome to Saturday of the second week of Lent Year B.  We ask the Good Lord to overlook our short comings and bless the day for us, through Christ our Lord.

Dear friends, do you know that the God we worship is a God of ‘Second Chances’?

“… Finally coming to his senses, he said: ‘How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!  I will get up and go to my father and say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you I no longer deserve to be called your son, treat me as one of you hired servant’… He was still a long way off when his father caught sight of him.  His father was so deeply moved with compassion that he ran out to meet him, threw his arms around his neck and kissed him….”

Luke 15:1-3, 11-32

In this passage, Jesus tells the parable of the Prodigal Son: a parable that illustrates divine forgiveness and redemption.  It portrays God’s unwavering love, in the father who welcomes back his repentant son.  The parable emphasizes the transformative nature of reconciliation and the opportunity for second chances.  Through the elder son’s reaction, the parable highlights human struggles with jealousy and self-righteousness, prompting us to reflect on our own attitudes towards others’ redemption.  Ultimately, the parable encourages us to contemplate the depth of divine mercy and to emulate it in our relationship with others; fostering forgiveness, understanding and the joy of embracing those seeking redemption

Dear friends, are you making good use of the second chance(s) that God, in His mercy, has given to you?

Let us pray.

Heavenly Father,

Teach us from the parable of the Prodigal Son to embrace forgiveness and redemption.  Help us to emulate Your boundless love and celebrate reconciliation.  Help us to overcome jealousy and self-righteousness, welcoming others with open hearts.  May Your Mercy resonate in our lives, granting grace to those seeking redemption.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

The Lord be with you.
